That reaction makes sense, honestly. Price is loud. It's the easiest thing to point at, screenshot, and turn into a headline. A number climbing or falling just feels more real than an abstract argument about power and trust. But when you boil Bitcoin down to a ticker symbol, you miss the whole point. The market is what everyone watches. It's not why Bitcoin exists.

Strip away the volatility, the cryptography, the acronyms, and you're left with a question people have been wrestling with for centuries: who do we hand power to, and why? The Criticisms Are Part of the Conversation

It uses a lot of energy, and that raises fair questions about environmental impact, mining incentives, and where that energy actually comes from. Its base layer processes transactions slower than centralized payment networks, which keeps the scaling debate alive year after year. Self-custody is powerful, but it's also unforgiving β€” one mistake and your coins can be gone for good. And the broader crypto industry, let's be honest, has produced no shortage of scams, hype cycles, failed projects, and predatory speculation that muddy the water and distort how people understand Bitcoin itself.

The more useful question isn't whether Bitcoin is perfect. It's whether the problem it's trying to solve is real. Centralized money can be abused. Savings can be quietly diluted. Access can be denied. Financial systems can shut out the very people who need them most. Institutions fail and still expect to be trusted afterward. Bitcoin exists because enough people looked at all that and decided an alternative was worth building.

Decentralization Is an Ongoing Practice

Bitcoin is still young, historically speaking. It's already survived crashes, government bans, internal fights, exchange collapses, countless media obituaries, and wave after wave of speculation. And yet it just keeps producing blocks, roughly every ten minutes, without a CEO, without a central server, without ever asking permission to keep going.
